Sažetak
The Fifth Croatian Congress of Pharmacology with international participation was organized together with Second Congress of Croatian Physiological Society in Osijek, Slavonija, Croatia. The rationale for the joint congress was in the similar themes related to pharmacology, physiology, genetics, toxicology etc., presented by the members of both societies (Croatian Pharmacological Society and Croatian Physiological Society). The congress’ s topics included diverse topics related to basic and clinical pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, and physiology. The main topics were presented in symposia: cell signalling, neurobiological basis and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C, organic anion and cation transporters in mammalian organs, pathophysiology and treatment of Alzheimer’ s disease ; diabetes and stress, natural sources of pharmacology active compounds, pharmacogenomics, clinical pharmacology, regulation of blood pressure and microcirculation, and diving physiology. The congress consisted of 62 lectures and 87 posters, with 348 authors and co-authors from all around the globe (EU, non-EU, USA and Japan). Poster sessions covered themes related to clinical and preclinical pharmacology, neuropharmacology, and physiology. The aim of the congress was to join together scientists and clinicians from the pharmacology and physiology, to offer young scientist an opportunity to present their data, and to try to organize collaboration between Croatian scientists and experts from abroad. The main goal of the Congress was to unite experts from the various fields in pharmacology, neuropharmacology, neuropsychiatry, physiology, and to introduce some novel pharmacological data regarding natural products (red wine, aromatic plants etc). Some novel data related to treatment of insomnia and nightmares in PTSD, and from pharmacogenomics, were presented.
