Sažetak
Light curing materials are widely used in restorative, prosthetic and preventive dentistry as well as orthodontics. Consequently, light curing unit is an essential product for every dentist, and its characteristics strongly influence quality of restoration. For many years, halogen lights have been used as a standard in dentistry. However, due to many disadvantages of halogen light, plasma-arc, laser lights and blue light emitting diodes (LED) have been introduced. Clinical importance of a reliable curing light covers: adequate degree of conversion on surface and deep within the material, minimal polymerization shrinkage and heating of the material, activation of different photoinitiator and polymerization of direct and indirect restoration. In the past few years LED technology developed with improved properties to ensure reliable polymerization suitable for different clinical situations and light curing materials regardless of the photoinitiator used. Today, thanks to many advances in semiconductor technology, LED curing units have become a standard in modern dentistry.
