Sažetak
Introductory pages shortly display the development of the Kosovo legend (myth) in pre-modern Serbian society and disseminated throughout South-Slavic areas. Then it is analysed how the motif of heroic sacrifice, within the paradigm of common South Slavic heroic epic poetry, has been integrated into public discourse, social memory and the processes of construction of Other amongst the Croat and Bosnian Muslim (Bosniak) populations as well. The particular accent is put on how it achieved new connotations and meanings in the modern socio-political context of the break-up of Yugoslavia.
