Sažetak
Atlantic bonito, Sarda sarda (BLOCH, 1793), is a widely distributed, epipelagic, neritic, schooling species that can adapt to gradual environmental changes (COLLETTE & NAUEN, 1983). Biogeographically, it belongs to Atlantic-Mediterranean region (JARDAS, 1983). This species is distributed along tropical and temperate coasts of the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (COLLETTE & CHAO, 1975 ; YOSHIDA, 1980). During the summer of 2005, the juvenile specimens (N=93) of Atlantic bonito, Sarda sarda (BLOCH, 1793) were collected from beach seine catches of the Zrmanja River estuary (Novigrad Sea), which is a nursery ground, and partly a spawning ground, of the small pelagic fish species. Nine morphometric characters (LT, LF, LA, LC, O, H, LP, LD1, LD2) and one meristic character (number of vertebrae) of the juvenile specimens of Atlantic bonito were measured in order to present the first data of biometry of S. sarda juveniles. Fork lengths and weights of Atlantic bonito specimens were between 5.7 and 8.4 cm and 1.09 and 5.24 g respectively. Length-length relationships were established using linear regression analysis and revealed highly significant (P<0.001) linear correlations to growth in fork length. Length-weight relationship was W=0.0033LF3.424 ; positive allometry was established.
