Sažetak
A concentration of total gaseous mercury (TGM) was measured in the atmosphere of the electrochemical laboratory using a technique based on the preconcentration of mercury onto a gold wire followed by its thermal desorption and the determination by an atomic absorption spectrometry. A milliliter of liquid mercury was placed in the laboratory and its evaporation was investigated. In the open room the concentration of TGM after three hours was 0.6 g/m3, but when the room was closed for six hours, the concentration increased to 2.6 g/m3. After five hours of aeration the concentration was diminished to 0.2 g/m3. Hence, the atmosphere in electrochemical laboratories can satisfy the standard for mercury in non-occupational indoor environments (a ceiling level of 1 g/m3) if they are regularly aerated.
