Sažetak
Hollowsnout grenadier Caelorinchus caelorhincus is distributed in the eastern Atlantic, western Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. It lives at depths between 180 and 900 m and is a carnivorous species that mostly feeds on fish and benthic invertebrates. The samples of C. caelorhincus were collected by bottom trawl during the MEDITS („ Mediterranean international trawl survey“ ) expedition conducted in June 2003 in the middle and northern Adriatic Sea. Collected samples were sorted on board and stored for later laboratory analysis. Total of 170 C. caelorhincus were used for the analysis, out of which 52 % were males, 48% females and one unidentified specimen. Pre- anal length range for males was between 39 and 77 mm (x=50.8± 7.6 mm), and for females between 29 and 115 mm (x=55.5± 16.3 mm). Age and growth of C. caelorhincus was analyzed using otoliths that were polished until their core was reached. Age ranged from 2 to 8 years, 2-6 years for males and 2-8 years for females. Majority of specimens (61%) were 3 and 4 years old. Average age of males was 3.7± 1.0 years, while that of females was 4.0± 1.5 years. Obtained von Bertalanffy growth parameters were: L∞ = 128 mm, K = 0.105 year-1 and t0 = -1.277.
