Sažetak
In several past decades modern society in developed, but also in transitional countries, is rapidly changing from postindustrial society into a knowledge based society. Traditional key economic factors (work, land and capital) are losing their importance in favor of intangible assets and intellectual skills which we reconsider under the term of « ; ; knowledge» ; ; . Precisely, quantity of knowledge that is incorporated into products, services and business processes makes the difference between excellent and mediocre companies and institutions. Recent approach to knowledge management is based on modern information and communication technology (ICT). The mix of different ICT tools which are forming integrated KMSS (knowledge management support system) have to support following activities: (1) management of business data, (2) business document and digital content management, (3) protection of different knowledge formats, (4) distance learning, and (5) cooperation. In the knowledge society lifelong learning becomes more and more important. However, due to restricted resources of time and space, the idea of distance learning arises because it enables every person to determine the pace and time of his/hers individual learning process. Under the term of distance learning we imply every kind of learning in which the teacher and the student are dislocated. Modern ICT enables the development of different forms of support systems for distance learning such as web-based learning systems, computer-based learning systems, virtual classrooms and collaboration systems. Nowadays, distance learning is usually supported throughout digital educational contents which are delivered to users via different networks (Internet, extranet or intranet), audio and video tapes, satellites, CD-ROMs and DVDs. Therefore, in practice for such education often the term of e-learning is used. The development of efficient e-learning system should be based on the system approach. The system approach includes application of different methods and procedures in e-learning system development, while the process of development is conducted throughout several steps/phases beginning with information needs determination, through creation of system prototype and its testing, and concluding with construction of total solution of the e-learning system and its implementation. In this paper steps of an e-learning system prototype development will be described on the concrete example of the e-learning system prototype developed at Faculty of Economics and Business Zagreb. The developed prototype for a segment of the course Information technology will be presented. Finally, the scheduled evaluation procedures of mentioned prototype will be described.
