Sažetak
Ecological concerns provided the need for intensive research of recycling polymers waste. Poly(ethylene-terephthalate), (PET) is polymer material, which is intensively used in many applications, mainly for production of bottles for storing soft drinks and mineral water. In recent years use of PET bottles is enormously growing as well as quantity of collected waste PET. For this reason mechanical and chemical recycling of PET is constantly developing. In our study two different methods of PET chemical recycling were carried out: glycolysis and hydrolysis. The chemical recycling by glycolysis leads to formation of monomer bis(2-hydroxy-ethyl)terephthalate (BHET) and PET oligomers containing hydroxyl and carboxyl end groups. Recycling by hydrolysis is followed by formation of monomers terephthalic acid (TPA) and ethylene glycol (EG). The obtained monomers and oligomers were separated and further characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results show that differential scanning calorimetry is successful method to describe the different structures of formed oligomers. The fraction of the monomers and oligomers obtained by chemical recycling showed that hydrolysis and glycolysis are very efficient method of PET chemical recycling.
