Sažetak
Plastic waste has become one of the main issues of environmental concerns. Separation of plastic waste into individual polymers is costly and complete sorting is some times impossible. Plastic waste can be recycled by converting it into the form of polymer blends. The most widely used polymers of plastic waste are polyethylene and polypropylene and in order to obtain good mechanical performances of their blends, adding a third product such as compatibilizers or other additives as filler are often used. In the present work, properties of the polyethylene/polypropylene (PE/PP) blends with respect to the added modifiers were studied. It is expected that influence of the modifier on the blends will result in changes of blend morphology and mechanical properties. Studied samples of PE/PP/filler (90/10/15 wt %), PE/PP/EVA/filler and PE/PP/EPR/filler (90/10/5/15 wt %) blends were prepared by extrusion. As modifiers are used: ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR), ethylene-vinyl acetate (EPR) and filler aluminum oxide Al(OH)3 . Characterization of the prepared samples was carried out by determination of mechanical properties, by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and by examination of scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Results show that modifiers enhanced properties of the blends, increased miscibility and provide efficient mechanical recycling of the heterogeneous polymer waste.
