Sažetak
The carbonate facies of Gorski Kotar shows typical features of the Jurassic deposition on the Adriatic carbonate platform. During the most of the Early Jurassic, deposition was characterized by the periodic changes of sea-bottom conditions around the fair-weather wave-base, producing coarsening-upward cycles. From the late Early Jurassic till the end of the early Late Jurassic, micritic limestones were predominantly deposited all over the platform. They were irregularly interrupted with coarser-grained intercalations as a consequence of currents that triggered sediment influx from the neighboring, higher energy topographic highs. This long-term mud dominated sedimentary interval might be a consequence of opening of the Dinaridic branch of the Tethys on the NE side of the Adriatic carbonate platform, and the opening of the Adriatic basin on the S-SW side of it. This extensional movements might lead to slight and steady drowning of the Adriatic platform area, causing the establishment of predominant quiet subtidal conditions all over the platform. The establishment of peritidal conditions during the late Late Jurassic indicates shallowing of the Adriatic platform realm. This might be a consequence of shifting of the NE platform margin towards the S-SW, which triggered simultaneous and gradual uplift of its S-SW margin. This uplifting stopped when the closing of the Dinaridic branch of the Tethys began. This led to predominance of the subsidence rate that combined with global eustatic sea-level rise enabled the pronounced drowning of the S-SW Adriatic platform margin as well as some inner platform parts during the Jurassic-Cretaceous transitional period.
