Sažetak
During the last few years we were all bombarded with information about climate changes and the consequences on how these changes can affect our daily life. Scientists all over the world are investigating this problem, trying to point out to the governments and to the leaders of the world countries how they can slow down or stop this process. To contribute to the solution of this global problem we, the Stable Isotope Laboratory at Rijeka University, have started a project together with elementary and high school children who are participants of the GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) program in Croatia. The project is focused on the global water cycle and its changes by using a new tool, the study of stable isotopes in precipitation water. The main goal of the project is to involve and educate children of any age in scientific work, and make them realize that regard of the environment and their activities have a great influence on its response to us. Short term result (2-3 years) of this project will be a stable isotope map of precipitation in Croatia, and long term results (5-6 years) are expected to be visualize an increasing or decreasing average monthly temperature by using the stable isotopes. With this project we can make a contribution to the future by teaching our children how to investigate, observe and care about our Earth.
