Sažetak
During the year 1996, in the Republic of Croatia extensive studies were being conducted with the objective of detennining mercury concentration in the air. Realization of the Project: Exploration of mercury in ecological, technological and geological systems in the Republic of Croatia involved the application of the portable multi-purpose mercury analyzer, PA-915, made in Russia. The instrument uses the principle of atomic absorption spectrophotometry and the Zeeman's effect, as well as the background and temperature correction factor, and is being supported by appropriate computer softwareN. During the research, 4500 kilometers were covered with continued measuring while driving (at the average speed of 50 kin per hour). Some measuring was even made in spots, in static conditions. Thus the profile of "zero state" of mercury concentration in the Croatian air was taken down, and that could be of great use for future studies. Mercury concentration in the air (at the height of I m off the ground) was mostly lower than 5 ng/m3, that is to say, the largest number of measured values does not display the increased value of mercury content in the air, in the Republic of Croatia, while the pollution caused by mercury was found only in some places (traffic, industrial centers, waste deposits and incinerating plants..)
