Sažetak
Gender stereotypes are as common in sport as in any other human activity (Oglesby and Hill, 1993). They considerably influence female and male behaviour in sport. The development of particular sport interest strongly depends on stereotypes in social surrounding (Prot & Bosnar, 2006). Factor analyses of sport preferences data showed that there are factors that are easily interpreted, but certain number of them had been left out of interpretation. It seems that first order factor solutions are not always appropriate for their analysis and that hierarchical component or factor models will feet better to the actual data. The problem is to determine hierarchical factor structure of sport interests on the samples of 2511 male and 1887 female adolescents, i.e. metropolitan high school graduates. They were given the list of 52 sports to be evaluated on five-point scale. Two separate hierarchical principal component analysis, have been provided for males and females data. Structures of higher order factors in space of initial variables have been defined, and each of levels have been compared. On the male sample: eleven (11) first order factors, four (4) second order factors and one (1) third order factor have been extracted. On the female sample: twelve (12) first order factors, four (4) second order factors and one (1) third order factor have been extracted. Hierarchical constellation of factors suggests certain resemblance, but the differences are obvious. Seven coefficients of congruence of first order factors are higher then 0.80 that suggests correspondence, but the others are less alike. The coefficients of congruence of corresponding second order factors are of 0.96, 0.84, 0.77, and -0.56, that demonstrates substantial difference at least two of them values below .80. And finally, coefficient of congruence between of third order factors is 0.82. Hierarchical organization and structure of sport interests in male and female adolescents defer substantially.
