Sažetak
General attitude toward dieting scale (Bosnar and Ambrosi-Randic, 2004.) was applied on the sample of 734 female high school students aged 15 to 20 years. Factor structure of the results was determined by component analysis of correlation matrix of scale items. The analysis resulted in eight eigenvalues greater than one explaining 54.3 percent of total variance. Eight principle components were rotated in promax position. Promax solution gave three well defined factors interpreted as Dieting for health and weight loss for health benefit, Life - style focused on dieting and Rejecting of hedonism. Further five factors were not so well defined. Oblique solution gave factors with small to noticeable correlations. Extraction of higher order principle components resulted in two interpretable factors, explaining 50.6 percent of variance. First component was significantly correlated with 36 of 37 items in scale, confirming the existence of general factor of attitude toward dieting. Second component can be recognized as Knowledgeable dieting, defined by rejection of media information and popular beliefs, stating that dieting is noxious, but avoiding additives, conservants and unhealthy food.
