Sažetak
Purpose: Female physicians report especially high leveles of stress. The purpose of this paper is to find out are there any differences in reporting work related stressors between female and male physicians in hospital. Methods: 40 female and 40 male hospital physicians anonimously and voluntarily completed questionnaire on work related stress. The questionnaire included items to obtain demographic characteristics and 37 items to determine occupational stresssors. The stressors were related to work management, professional demands, interpersonal and doctor-patient relationship. The differences were statistically analysed by Fisher exact test. Results: An average age of female physicians is 46 years (26-60) and average age of male physicians is 40 years (26-62). The most commonly reported sources of stress in both observed groups are: poor resources and poor management. Compare to male physicians, female identify more stressors and with higher frequencies. More than half female find out doctor- patient relationship stressful. In comparison to male, female doctors significantly more frequently report deadlines (p< 0.05) and lack of coworkers (p< 0.05), but they significantly less frequently report night shifts and 24 hours duty. Conclusion: Although similar working conditions our findings support the concern that female physicians in hopital are experiencing higher level of stress compare to male physicians. There is the need for futher research as well as the need for stress reduction programmes implementation.
