Sažetak
Geothermal energy has been used in the Zagreb city area for the past 18 years. At this moment, only a part of potential energy is utilized. For the future management actions its necessary to determine the spatial position of geothermal aquifers and their characteristics. The preliminary results of chemical and isotopic composition provide very important information about the origin of geothermal waters and their relation with other water-bearing environments, recharge conditions and mean residence time of water in aquifers. The obtained data indicates that, in the area of Zagreb city, two different geothermal systems were established. The first contains water of a CaMg-HCO3 type which reflects a dolomitic composition of aquifer bedrock. Its contains relatively younger water, recharged during the climatic conditions analogous to present. In spite of the fact that the other geothermal system is also situated in dolomitic rocks, its water composition is mainly Na-HCO3 with an elevated concentration of chlorides, bromides and iodine. Such composition could be a result of mixing with brackish waters originated from deeper parts of the Sava river basin. These waters are tritium free and their stable isotope composition indices colder recharge conditions.
