Sažetak
The practical application of sophisticated copolymerization systems has undergone a significant progress, since even a small fraction of a particular functional monomer may have a significant impact on the value of the desired property. Copolymers based on long chain alkyl methacrylates, in dependence on their composition and structure, are highly applicable as additives that improve rheological properties of liquids, especially lubricating mineral oils, as well as additives that improve the compatibility of biological and synthetic systems in some medical and pharmaceutical applications. In this work, polymerization kinetics and copolymerization reactivity in binary monomer systems of dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, octadecyl methacrylate, dodecyl methacrylate, methyl methacrylate and styrene was investigated. Copolymerizations were performed isothermally, in 1 mol dm-3 toluene solutions, using bifunctional peroxide initiator 1-di(tert-butylperoxy)-3, 3, 5- trimethylcyclohexane. Synthesized copolymers were characterized with respect to composition (NMR, elemental analysis), molar mass distribution (SEC) and characteristic thermal transitions (DSC). Based on the Mayo-Lewis model for binary radical copolymerization and obtained interdependences between copolymer and monomer mixture compositions, the copolymerization reactivity ratios were determined by linear and nonlinear methods for binary pair of monomers. The kinetic constants values for the particular system will serve the purpose of process and product properties regulation in sophisticated systems of multicomponent copolymerizations.
