Sažetak
The officers responsible for the navigation of todays ships operate a wealth of extremely sophisticated communication, positioning, anti-collision and vessel control instruments. Economic reality has compelled the shipping industry to reduce crew sizes, which in turn has limited the effectiveness of on-board training. Through simulation, preparation training has replaced the traditional ways of educating ships officers. It is highly undesirable that the watch officers on any vessel practise close quarter encounters on sight. Concern for human life, property and the environment render such valuable experience in a simulator without endangering themselves or others. A failure in the simulator doesnt result in the human, environmental and property damages that would occur during a failure on the job. This paper deals a some actual aspects using of the modern teaching aids - simulators for education and training of officers on both aboard and ashore. The methodical approach is particularly explain application of simulators of sophisticated ships systems and optimisation of the practical training of the students creating the scenarios in according with STCW.
