Sažetak
At the beginning… Since its establishment in 1869. the famous Berlin Aquarium has provided live marine organisms from Trieste (Italy). The increased pollution of the sea, the shortage of living resources and troubles involved by new harbor constructions forced the Aquarium management to find a new supply area. Rovinj located at the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, north Adriatic Sea, was chosen. The high biodiversity, the sparkling clear sea and excellent railway connections with central Europe encouraged Dr. Otto Hermes, director of the Zoological Garden and Aquarium in Berlin, to move its principal supplier of biological material from Trieste to Rovinj. A new building was erected on the shore of Valdibora Bay in the vicinity of the railway station and Station of the Berlin Aquarium was inaugurated on May 10th, 1891...
