Sažetak
During exploitation, the boiler for generation of steam for heating the residential buildings, showed water leakage on the welded joints of radial channels that connect the fire tube with the flue tubes. The repair was done by the overhaul of the hot water boiler. Samples were cut out from the boiler to be tested at the FSB Laboratory, Zagreb, in order to determine the cause of the unexpected fracture of the welded joints and the water leakage into the firebox. The analysis has shown that there had been irregularities during the production and exploitation of the boiler. The analysis of the fracture that stretches through the weld and the parent material (fire tube sheet) showed that high residual stresses occurred in welding of radial channels to the fire tube shell, and these may cause fracture immediately upon welding or some time later.
