Sažetak
This study produced an overall picture of the distribution of Centropages in the Mediterranean sea. C. typicus was the most abundant species. It may reach up to 60% of the total copepods and covering all the north western basin. The congeners C. hamatus, C. violaceus and C. chierchiae appeared associated to Atlantic waters since no reports exists from their presence in the Eastern basin. The basin scale trends of the spatial distribution of Centropages congeners in the Mediterranean Sea is characterized by a succession of species chiefly driven by the observed longitudinal and latitudinal gradients of temperature and chlorophyll. For instance, while the northwestern coasts favour the temperate species, such as C. typicus, the southeastern coasts favour the warmer ones (C. kroyeri).
