Sažetak
The paper examines the literary interests of younger learners, particularly connected to the characters of the fantastic genre. In the first part the paper brings an overview of the past research into the learners literary interests, and stresses their importance for the teaching process. The school compulsory reading material is commented upon. The second part of the paper brings the results of a research conducted among the fourth year primary school pupils. On the basis of the obtained results a conclusion is made on the interests of pupils and the differences that are manifested with regard to their sex. The stated results can be implemented in the teaching process of the Croatian language and the paper lists several possibilities of their use.
