Sažetak
A nearly linear relation between the Fano factor and the ratio W/I, where W is the mean energy required to form an ion pair in a gas, is semi-empirically found. Deviations from the linear relation are observed for very low incident energies. The relation F = a( W/ I ) + b is tested an several examples The proposed relation may be used 10 estimate the Fano factor for gases and gas mixtures for which only the W value is known.
