Sažetak
This paper sets out general terms for analysing carrying capacity, friction and flow of incompressible lubricant in hydrodynamic bearings with Rayleigh's step-sliders of arbitrary shape. The linear bearings, which are characterised by linear motion of slider, and axial bearings, characterised by rotational motion of slider, are examined in detail. Lubricant flow is described by Reynolds differential equation that leads to differential equations specific for hydrodynamic lubrication in step-sliders. By partial integration of these differential equations in accordance with Gauss's theorem, the expressions for calculation of pressure, flow, forces and friction losses from distributions of pressure gradient on bearing boundary and lubricant flux over slider step are evaluated. The distributions mentioned are determined by the integral equation system, whose numerical solution can be found by application of boundary element method. For the reason to provide comparability of different bearings, suitable dimensionless coefficients characterising geometrically similar sliders and hydrodynamically similar lubricating conditions, are also proposed.
