Sažetak
Attempts were made to extend the potential window between severe anodic and cathodic corrosion pure aluminium in sodium chloride i.e. shift the cathodic side of the window in negative direction by adding some substances to the solution which could act as inhibitors. Two types of substances were tested: (a) weak acids acting by buffering OH¯ ions formed during cathodic evolution of hydrogen, thus preventing hydration of the protective oxide layer and subsequent cathodic corrosion by chemical attack and (b) strongly adsorption substances inhibiting the process of hydrogen evolution at the surface of the oxide. Both methods were found to shift the potential of fast increase of hydrogen evolution by a few hundred millivolts.
