Sažetak
Aiming the optimization of nanofiltration (NF) for the textile wastewater treatment, the present work focused on the study of the process parameters such as cross-flow velocity, operating pressure and flux in order to get optimal performance of the NF process. NF was chosen was textile wastewater treatment because enables separation of low molecular organics (like dyes) as well as multivalent inorganic components. The water and the brine produced from the NF processes could be re-used for other processes in textile industry such as dyeing/printing and washing/rinsing. Recycling the mineral salts used during wet processes is of great interest, in view of the high consumption of salts, and the unacceptably high salinity of the discharge. A synthetically-prepared reactive dye printing wastewater was subjected to NF. Except for the dye type the basic composition of the synthetic wastewater was similar to wastewater obtained from a local textile factory in Slovenia. The filtrations were carried out with three commercial NF membranes (NFT-50, DK and DL), which were evaluated for membrane fouling tendency, permeate flux, and their suitability in removing salt, colour and COD. All filtration experiments were conducted in a plate and frame module. It was observed that the DL membrane had better operational performance (higher permeate flux) than the DK and NFT-50 membranes. Determination of critical fluxes pointed out that the critical fluxes are rather low for textile effluents in membrane filtration. In addition, adsorption and internal pore plugging may also significantly reduce the permeate flux, even when the filtering rate is under the critical flux. Very highly effective separation was achieved using NFT-50 membrane for all three parameters analyzed. The effectiveness of retentions was followed by DK and DL membranes. Both RO membranes showed very high retentions for all the three parameters observed. This work demonstrated that by using proper membranes and operation conditions, it is possible to apply NF in the treatment of textile wastewater and to separate the process water types into desalted water useable for rinsing after dyeing, reclaimed salt brine useable for dyeing and a concentrate to be disposed of. However, the membrane fluxes were low due to the dense membrane structure and highly loaded wastewater with organic and inorganic substances.
