Sažetak
This is a review of a unique and highly valuable book. The Litt’ s Drug Eruption book provides rich information on drug introduction, index of generic and trade names, index of herbals, classes of drugs, drug eruptions A-Z, drugs responsible for 108 common reaction patterns, and description of 32 most common reactive patterns. In the Introduction section, the author gives definition according to the World Health Organization of adverse drug reaction (ADR) or adverse event (AE), defined as any noxious or unintended reaction to a drug that has been administered in standard doses by the proper route for the purpose of prophylaxis, diagnosis, or treatment. Adverse drug reactions have been classified into six types: dose-related ; non-dose-related and time-related ; time-related ; withdrawal and unexpected failure of therapy. This Manual is a drug eruption reference guide that describes and catalogs adverse cutaneous and other side effects of more than 1000 commonly prescribed and over-the-counter generic drugs. In this 2006 state-of-the-art twelfth edition, the author has included more than 30, 000 references and sources from journal articles, books and observations from dermatologists all over the world. The first part of the Manual lists in alphabetical order more than 1000 generic and over 2000 trade drugs with their corresponding names for easy access to the A-Z section as the main body of the Manual. The next is the list of various drug categories and those generic drugs that belong to each class. The major section of the Manual lists more than 1000 generic drugs, herbals and supplements in alphabetical order. The last parts of the Manual include description of 32 most common reaction patterns ; list of drugs that can induce more than 108 different reaction patterns, including acne, alopecia, bullous pemphigoid, erythema multiforme, lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, urticaria, lichenoid eruptions, photosensitivity, toxic epidermal necrolysis, vasculitis, and others. The CD-ROM in the back of the book contains all data from the main body of the book, except for references. Color photographs and description of some common reactions are included in CD-ROM. In this book, the author addresses all aspects of drug reactions by providing clear introduction in drug eruptions and interactions that are very important for dermatologists, internists, and allergologists to whom this reference manual will be precious indeed.
