Sažetak
The paper deals with the road toll collection models in the Republic of Croatia and in the world. The existing toll collection models are analysed, and the strategy for future road toll systems considered. The direct and indirect road toll collection systems are specially analysed.
There are various ways of road toll collection in the world. In the majority of countries the road toll is collected through taxes and contributions. Some European countries (Italy, France, Croatia) have direct road toll system which requires the stopping of most of the vehicles.
The future certainly lies in electronic road toll systems without stopping the vehicles. For the moment such systems are not adequate for the Republic of Croatia due to the necessary huge investments. The paper also analyses road toll models regarding concessions.
