Sažetak
The manufacturing and application of organic dyes involve the production and handling with many organic compounds hazardous for human health and environment. Chemical treatment such as Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) seems to be very useful for treating wastewaters containing organic dyes. AOPs are defined as the processes that involve highly reactive species, particularly hydroxyl radicals in sufficient quantities to oxidize the majority of complex organic chemicals in the water effluents. UV based AOPs are widely used to decompose organic pollutants in industrial wastewater and groundwater. Hybrid gas/liquid electrical discharge reactors include high voltage electrical discharge in water and in the gas phase above the water surface. Difference between hybrid series and hybrid parallel types relate to the electrode configuration, which is correlated with the amount of produced ozone, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals. The goal of the study was to investigate application of hybrid gas/liquid high voltage electrical discharge (corona) reactors as well as UV/TiO2, UV/Fenton and UV/H2O2/O3 processes for degradation and mineralization of reactive azo dye C.I. Reactive Red 45. The primary objective was to determine the optimal conditions for each of processes. The influence of zeolite addition (NH4ZSM5) on process efficiency was also studied. Total process efficiency was estimated on the basis of total organic carbon (TOC) and spectrophotometric (UV/VIS) measurements.
