Sažetak
A regenerative fuel cell is a device that can operate alternately as an electrolyzer and as a fuel cell. Several regenerative fuel cell system applications and corresponding design trade-offs are discussed in this paper. Design trade-offs include unitized vs. discrete stack designs, oxygen vs. air fed systems, selection of operating pressure, and selection of nominal cell voltage. Applications discussed include uninterruptible power supply/back-up generator, applications in conjunction with intermittent renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind, and aerospace applications, such as high altitude solar rechargeable aircraft and water rocket. Status and progress in development and applications of regenerative fuel cell systems at Proton Energy Systems is presented.
