Sažetak
In recent years, in Croatia and in the whole world, the largest part of the vegetable production has been produced in a conventional manner of agricultural production. This production systems demands more intensive use of polymeric materials for soil mulch, chemical fertilizers (nitrogen), sa well as high degree of agricultural engineering, which inevitably induces a series of negative effects on environment and on people's health. All the above-mentioned reasons increasingly induce a search for alternative solutions and their application. With the aim of stopping long term agricultural land degradation, the overuse of the nitrogen and the avoidance of polymeric materials, a possible solution is the application of vegetable mulch in the agricultural production. For field plot experiment we used latin square scheme with four repetitions, which took place at the family farm in Pula (August 2000 August 31, 2001). We have compared early, late and entire acre yield of market tomato fruit. Tomatoes were cultivated on plant mulch, crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum) and hairy vetch (Vicia villosa), on the uncovered soil and on the soil covered with black polyethylene (PE) film. Trial plots with plant mulch were sawn in autumn and movn in spring before planting tomato transplants. Tillage for trial plots with PE mulch and bare soil was done as usually. All plants were fertirrigated with the same system by drip irrigation system and same rates of nutrients. The results showed that the acre yield of the early and late market tomato fruit was not significantly influenced by the soil mulch type. However, the highest acre yield of the early market tomato fruit was obtained on the black PE-mulch while the acre yield of the late market tomato fruit was the highest on the vegetable mulch, hairy wetch and crimson clover. Tomatoes cultivated on uncovered soil had significantly the lowest entire acre yield of market tomato fruit. The results also showed that the average mass of the early and the late market tomato fruit was not significantly influenced by the treatments. Tomato fruit mass were not significantly influenced by soil mulches.
