Sažetak
There are rougly 220.000 astmatic patients in Croatia, out of 4.5 bilion inhabitants. On three occasions (November 1992, November 1993 and April 1998) members of the Croatian Society for pulmology filled in the questionnaire assessing their attitude in the use of corticosteroids (inhaled or oral) in intermittent and persistent (mild, moderate and severe) asthma. All the examinees were intensively subjected to the continuous education in line with the Global Strategy for Asthma Management and Prevention (GINA). Aim of the study was to investigate the attitude of croatian pulmologists toward the treatment of asthma, to assess the relation of their attitudes toward the GINA and to evaluate the impact of continuous education upon the treatment attitudes. The prescribing of corticosteroids is presented in table. The prescribing of inhaled or oral corticosteroids (%) in asthma November 1992 November 1993 April 1998 (N=84) (N=61) (N=77) Corticosteroids inhaled oral inhaled oral inhaled oral Intermitent asthma 0 0 0 0 4 3 Persistent asthma mild 6 0 17* 0 62** 4 moderate 39 0 75** 0 83** 1 severe 15 35 45** 40 88** 57** The prescribing of inhaled cortocosteroids has significantly (*p<0.05, p**<0.01 increased since November 1992, and in April 1998 is close to the recomendations of the GINA report.
