Sažetak
This paper deals with intralexical factors that influence vocabulary acquisition in Croatian as a second language. We offer the results of research conducted on adult learners of Croatian as L2, speakers of Italian and English L1. The data was collected by using a receptive vocabulary test (translation test). The same types of incorrect answers were found in both groups confirming the intralexical nature as an influencing factor. More specifically, the higher frequency of particular types of incorrect answers gives evidence supporting the importance of specific language features for vocabulary acquisition. The results show that key features of the Croatian language, i.e. morphological complexity and high degree of transparency between pronunciation and orthography, effect vocabulary acquisition.
