Sažetak
Carbon nanotubes are very promising materials for organic electronics due to their unique mechanical, electronic and optical properties. Composites of carbon nanotubes with organic molecules are very interesting for use in organic optoelectronic devices. The organic molecules can interact with the surface of the carbon nanotubes by π -stacking interactions and induce an energy or charge transfer after optical excitation. Another possibility is to encapsulate the molecules inside the carbon nanotubes to induce an amphoteric doping. [1] In this study nitroxides, Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes are used as paramagnetic probes to investigate the interior/exterior of the carbon nanotubes. The g-anisotropy, the hyperfine interaction and the g- and hyperfine strains of these molecules are very sensitive to environmental changes such as a π -stacking interaction with the surface of the nanotubes or an encapsulation inside the nanotubes. We study multi-component EPR-spectra of different carbon nanotube composites. By using a recently developed technique to solubilize single wall carbon nanotubes in water using bile salts as surfactants [2], we can also study the interaction of individual carbon nanotubes with the molecules. In particular we found for a Co(II) porphyrine/carbon nanotube composite that a signigifcant part of the molecules are insensitive to environmental changes which shows that these molecules are protected by the nanotubes. This is consistent with the encapsulation of the molecules inside the carbon nanotubes. The EPR-investigation is combined with resonant Raman scattering, UV/Vis absorption and steady state and time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy to study energy or charge transfer processes between the organic molecules and the carbon nanotubes.
