Sažetak
The purpose of the research is to provide an enhanced understanding of the attitudes of CEOs and the top management team members’ (TMT members) regarding the hotel industry located on the Croatian coast. The objective of the research is to analyze improving the competitiveness of Croatian tourism, specifically, the processes of strategy formulation and implementation. The conclusions are based on a comparison of results of questionnaires given to top managers in sample companies in 1999 and 2005. In this period, the process of strategy formulation experienced a qualitative movement in the sense of the increased usage of SWOT analyses in the companies, the improved selection of purposes at the level of hotel and restaurant activities, as well as choice of a more focused strategy using Porter’ s generic approach. Greater attention was also paid to strategy implementation.
