Sažetak
The thesis is presented in five chapters the content of which is outlined below. Chapter 1 presents the aims of the research and research questions. It introduces the book and provides a philosophical background to the research. Chapter 2 depicts the theories behind the research: theories of democratic evaluation and deliberative democratic evaluation, social theories of Habermas, Gadamer and Foucault related to knowledge, power and discourse, and the theories of action research as a methodological approach. The theories build on postmodernism and are portrayed from the postmodern perspective. This chapter also sets out the rationale for action research. Chapter 3 illustrates the context and nature of the research. It describes the research methodology and explains the action research approach to the study ; it presents my reflections as a lecturer of English and it also gives reasons for the two waves of data collection. It briefly summarises the limitations of the research and displays the pilot study findings. This chapter illustrates the different roles of the researcher and the conflict between them during data collection and dissemination of the findings. Chapter 4 presents the two waves of data collection and gives a detailed picture of the findings. It presents the issues that emerged from the research and suggests, in a discussion and interviews with lecturers, how they could be dealt with. This chapter also discusses the aspect of reflection (learning, understanding and realising how this could lead to change) and how it directly affected the author in her role as a lecturer of English, reflective practitioner, evaluator and researcher. Chapter 5 is a conclusion of the book with a summary of results and interpretations around theories and relevant literature. This chapter also offers recommendations for the use of research findings, and it spells out implications of the study for theory and practice. It finally proposes questions for further research.
