Sažetak
From our laboratory it was previously reported that relapsing form of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (CR-EAE) in DA rats is a very suitable model for studying multiple sclerosis (MS). In this study we investigated the influence of pregnancy on the development of CR-EAE. Three groups of DA rats 6-12 weeks old, were sensitized with bovine brain white mather in complete Freund's adjuvant during the first, the second and the third week of gestation. Controls were nonpregnat sensitized female DA rats. The disease was observed in all pregnant rats with the mortality rate less than in the control groups for abouth 15%. In the group of animals sensitized during the first and the third week of gestation the acute phase of the disease (acute attack and relapse respectively) was significantly higher in intensity and duration compared with control groups (P<0, 05). The immunisation of the rats during the second gestational week didn't change significantly the clinical course of the disease when compared to controls.
