Sažetak
This note is based on a joint talk with Yakov Berkovich at the Ischia Group Theory Conference 2004. 1) We first discuss a simple proof of a theorem classifying finite 2-groups which do not possess a normal elementary abelian subgroup of order 8. 2) Finite 2-groups G with /Omega_2(G)/<=16 are completely determined. This result appears to be very useful.
