Sažetak
Wetland mapping was conducted in the immediate vicinity of Zagreb, where the fishponds of Crna Mlaka are situated. Crna Mlaka is a special ornithological reserve of protected fishponds and old floodplain forests of pedunculate oak. The fishponds of Crna Mlaka and their surroundings featuring natural forests of pedunculate oak and narrow-leaved ash, humid meadows, grasslands and abandoned pastures that are successively converted into forests, are a valuable waterfowl site and one of the richest otter habitats in Europe. As such, they have been entered in the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance. In order to make the inventory of a wetland area it is necessary to design a system of classification providing descriptions and a key to classifying sites into suitable types, process the data according to a standardized methodology and map the area according to the accepted classification. The study area was classified into categories using the MedWet methodology and the CORINE methodology. Black and white aerial photographs were photo-interpreted and a key for wetland mapping (MedWet Habitat Description) was used to classify three basic systems: lake (Lacustrine), pond (Palustrine) and river (Riverine). The areas classified according to the CORINE Nomenclature devised for land use mapping in the study area were put into 14 classes at level 3 of the CORINE project. Wetland maps were made for the area of Crna Mlaka on the basis of the categories. Each map was accompanied with the attribute database. All the data were spatially defined and made available to other users. They also permit any changes in the existing data or making new additions. The established GIS model of wetland areas provides data on the structure, distribution, size and position of wetland types in the area of Crna Mlaka.
