Sažetak
Maritime transport plays a very important role in the European transportation of goods and passengers. Approximately 40 % of all cargo moved within the EU and about 70 % of the Unions external trade is transported by ships. Perhaps 50 Million passengers chose to travel from one destination to another by ferry each year. Therefore, the need for VTS is obvious and it should be integrated in port system improving the intelligent port system. The European Union has been following a policy of developing and then integrating Vessel Traffic Service (VTS), for some years.
