Sažetak
For various applications of solar energy, the reliable estimates are needed, but long-term records of measured global solar radiation in Croatia are very scarce. In this work the adequacy of Meteonorm computer program to predict global radiation in Croatia has been tested. The accuracy of the program predictions is quantitatively examined by comparing them with all available measured data for global solar radiation (long-term averaged values for each month from Croatian stations and several geographically close stations with long-term records in neighboring countries. Statistical methods selected to compare calculated and experimental (measured) values included MBE (mean bias error), RMSE (root mean square error) and correlation coefficient, q. Comparison of calculated data (using Meteonorm) and measured data (long-term averages) showed a very good agreement: Generally, errors are small (few % in MBE and up to 10 % in RMSE) for yearly averages, and correlation coefficient q ranged from 0.992 to 0.999. The inaccuracy of these estimates is found acceptable, since it is much smaller than ones coming from other sources of inaccuracy, like the year-to-year variations of global radiation. The relatively very good accuracy is interpreted as the consequence of including experimental data of European meteo-stations in the program data-base, which reduces the error of underestimating the diffuse component of global radiation (which is typical for programs based primarily on data from US stations, including famous Liu-Jordan correlation). Advantages of using computer-generated solar data – once their accuracy is proven – are discussed.
