Sažetak
Anogenital warts are the most easily recognized sign of the most common sexually transimtted infection – Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), although not all people with HPV infection have genital warts. Up to 60% of the sexually active women in European countries are infected with HPV. Signs of the HPV infection are found in 40-60% of their male partners. Quality of life of patients with genital warts is potentially affected. That influence is supposed to be the most obivous in the areas of sexual functioning and emotional status. The way people perceive their illness has significant influence on how much their quality of life will be affected. The study is being conducted in the University Hospital “Sestre Milosrdnice” in Zagreb, at the Clinic for dermatology and venereology. After seeing the dermatovenereologist, patients that are coming to the Clinic for analysis and treatment of genital warts, are given Health Related Quality of Life Questionnaire for patients with genital warts (HRQoL-genital warts) and brief Illness Perceptions Questionnaire (brief IPQ). We expect that the most significant influence of genital warts will be manifested in the area of sexual functioning and emotional status. We are assuming that the influence will be more obvious in women than in men, and in younger population more than in the older one. Also, significant positive correlation is expected between illness perceptions and quality of life. Assessing the psychological impact of anogenital warts and the impact of the disease on quality of life in patients, offers insight into areas patients don't openly talk about but are important for their well being and satisfaction with the treatment. This approach enables more complete treatment of the patient and can be of great use in clinical decision making.
