Sažetak
Based on the studies of the women with a breast cancer, the existence of a « typical» personality profile and emotional functioning is identified. Our clients can be characterized as lonely, mistrustful, with a high level of self-control, that are anxious, depressive, full of angry, passive-aggressive and conflict persons, and with a high level of inferiority complex. This study investigated symptoms of anxiety in 93 women ages 18-90 years old with newly diagnosed breast cancer near the time of their diagnosis. Disease severity and coping style were also examined. Path analysis controlling for disease severity revealed that coping style fully mediated the effect of age on symptoms of anxiety. These findings suggest that age is an salient factor to consider in the psychological adjustment of women with breast cancer, with younger women exhibiting greater affective distress and a tendency to engage in less adaptive ways of coping. Interaction model of anxiety has been verified with multi-dimensional scales, where the area of interest was the estimation of two anxiety dimensions: cognitive concern in relation with autonomous emotional reaction. The results show that the anxiety reactions are dominant in the area of the cognitive concern. The areas of both of these anxiety dimensions have been verified with the item analysis.
