Sažetak
The paper introduces a feasible structure for the VTS system in the inshore waterway to the port of Rijeka. A proposal for the introduction of a routeing system on the traffic lane leading to the port of Rijeka is presented. A high-quality monitoring of navigation enables increases safety and leads to a greatest protection of the marine environment. In this sense, the validity of structuring a VTS system in the controlled area results from the ever-increasing number of transiting vessels, some of which carry dangerous cargoes. Majority of these vessels are leisure craft and passenger ships. The need for establishing such system also arises from the unfavorable hydrographic conditions, which affect navigation and reduce the level of safety in the traffic lane leading to the port of Rijeka. The described proposal of the VTS system includes the establishment of new routeing system, with radar and AIS equipment to be included for vessel monitoring. Their location and mode of operation are worked out in detail in this paper.
