Sažetak
Relative technical efficiency of the Croatian insurance companies for the years 1998. - 2005. is considered in the paper using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach. Identifying sources and amounts of relative technical inefficiency and recognizing differencies in relative technical efficiency between foreign owned and domestically owned insurers is investigated in order to identify influence of foreign direct investment on the relative technical efficiency of the insurance companies. Differences in relative technical efficiency regarding the size of insurance companies are found and influences of mergers activities in the past as well as possibilities for mergers and acquisitions processes in the future are identified. Malmquist total factor productivity index and its components are estimated in order to find changes in relative technical efficiency and technology in the Croatian insurance industry during the period of analysis.
