Sažetak
The diet rich in sucrose increases synthesis of triglycerides in the liver and induces hypertriglyceridemia. It was investigatedwhether, the resulting hypertriglyceridemia increased plasma butyrylcholinesteraseactivity in ratsfed with a high carbohydrate diet, and whether the treatment with gemfibrozil caused decrease in plasma tryglicerides and butyrylcholinesterase activity. Wistar rats were fed either normal rat chow or a comercially prepared high sucrose diet. Two control and two experimental groups were given control diet or high sucrose diet for 3 and 5 weeks. The third and fourth experimental groups were fed normal rat chow or high sucrosediet for 5 weeks, together with gemfibrozil treatment in the 4th and 5th week of study. High sucrosediet treatmentfor 5 weeks caused a significant increase in triglycerides. Gemfibrozil added to rats in normal rat chow for 5 weeks, caused a significant increase in all plasma lipids expect triglycerides, which were significantly lower. In rats on high sucrose diet, gemfibrozil did not decrease triglycerides. During gemfibrozil treatment, butyrylcholinesterase activity was significantly very high, especially in rats on sucrose rich diet. Gemfibrozil had no effect on triglyceride secretion from the liver in ratson high sucrose diet, because the stimulatory effect of the diet on triglyceridesynthesisin the liver was stronger. gemfibrozil as a peroxisome proliferator increased oxidation of free fatty acid in the liver and, as a consequence, butyrylcholinesteraseactivity also increased. In our experiments, the positive interrelation between butyrylcholinesterase and triglyceride was not observed.
