Sažetak
The Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research (founded in 1948) is primarily a scholarly-research institution ; therefore the archive materials stored in its Documentation are largely the result of field research and are assigned for research purposes. However, the material has also always been at wider public disposal, available for various applied projects and activities. During the 1990s, the new political circumstances in Croatia, followed by the war and destruction, re-enforced the need for (re)creation and setting up of new identities (local, regional, national). All this set in motion a wave of reconstruction and revitalisation of traditional culture. This was very pronounced in the sphere of music and folklore amateurism, but also in popular music. In addition to the mention of several examples, the "Memories" Project initiated by the "Jelsa" klapa-singers from Zagreb would be at the centre of my presentation. The project related to the reviving of songs notated in Jelsa on the island of Hvar during the 1930s and the 1940s by the Croatian composer Antun Dobronić, who also dealt with ethnomusicological issues. The project was realised thanks to close interaction between several enthusiastic musicians (arrangers) and in co-operation with the Institute, Croatian Radio, the Omiš Klapa-Singers Festival and the Samofix recording company.
