Sažetak
The thesis of irreducibility of two aesthetic sensibilities, the Oriental and Occidental, and of their supposed exclusiveness may be taken as analogous to Thomas Kuhn’ s incommensurability of scientific paradigms. My critique of the Kuhn’ s thesis is applicable here too: if two scientific world-views are considered incompatible it does not imply that no communication between them is possible, and also that they cannot be meaningfully compared ; incompatibility does not mean incomparability. Analogously, if two aesthetic ‘ paradigms’ , two cultural worlds, are considered mutually exclusive (or in Kuhnean terminology ‘ incompatible’ ) it by no means implies that they cannot be reasonably related, compared and appreciated.
