Sažetak
In this paper were first cited the reasons why the high availability of the system is important. Then were introduced the basic availability terms with special reference to paralel structure. Finaly was analysed the availability of different systems based on wavelength multiplexing (WDM-Wavelength Division Multiplexing) : point to point, chain and ring. Special attention was given to the WDM ring availability analysis which uses 1+1 wavelength channel protection as well as the influence of the availability of nodes and links on the overall system availability. Data on failure intensity and mean time for repair are taken from different papers. In this analysis we supposed that this was about WDM system with 16 wavelengths and 2.5 Gb/s as the basic capacity carrying the wavelength channels.
