Sažetak
The paper describes information management in tourism industry. It discusses issues regarding the content of tourism industry communication, i.e. the concept of what information and information management means to tourism industry. Tourism industry needs to pay attention to information management because missed opportunities and potentially dangerous threats to industry performance are the alternatives. The objective of information management is to develop appropriate messages that can present a tourism destination in the way it wants to be presented. The messages must be flexible so they can be creatively adjusted and understandable to tourist market. Since the communication process can convey any kind of information, but not all information, tourism management, explicitly or implicitly, makes decisions about the content of communication. Information management is becoming ever more important in insecure condition caused by grooving competition, shortened time for making decisions (the concept of “ time scissors” ), and by permanent changes in market conditions. The last part of the paper is based on conclusion that in order to implement the given changes (improvement of the quality of Croatian tourism industry), the application of information management, together with other factors, will be needed.
